This is a Celtic penannular with steel pin and pewter ring, patterned after items in the the Sutton Hoo finds. It is 3" across cast in fine, lead free, jeweler's pewter and antiqued by hand. This penannular brooch actually works like the ancient originals found in Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The Vikings wore this type of brooch to fasten their capes and cloaks about their shoulders. Many have been found in Norse graves. It is perfect to pin a heavy shawl or cape, heavy cloaks, shawls, sweaters and kilts.
